Osman Kamara is a Visionary Servant Leader who has the strength to lead, the will to fight and the passion to serve. He is the current elected Legislative district Leader for Dauphin County Democratic Committee (DCDC) Legislative District 106.
He was a Youth Program Specialist for Dauphin County for the past 16 years providing programs that assists youths in gaining knowledge and skills to become productive and law abiding members of their communities.
Equal opportunity and protection for all people there is a simple premise, summed up in our declaration of independence which says; "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness". We protect and respect all human rights, especially the basic right of all humanity to be free from oppression, intimidation and violence. We must respect each others differences, because we know it is our diversity that gives us strength as a nation. I will stand for these principles. Wealth and status should not be an entitlement to lead.
We need term limits in politics, especially in the House of Representative. I will introduce/support legislation that would allow members of the House of Representative to serve a maximum of four terms of two years. Term limits will encourage competitive elections, bringing in a wide range of experience and perspectives to the people's house and it will improve citizens access to the election process. Term limits bring the people's house closer to the people. We can no longer afford career politicians who seek self interest. We should have austerity measures; no state pension, no state car or per-dimes, I will go to Harrisburg, work to fix the problems and then return home. I am not a politician, one who has lost touch with the everyday needs and concerns of the people. I believe in people over politics!
I will be committed to protecting our land and water. The discovery of gas in the Marcellus Shale region of our commonwealth is a blessing. The gas drilling industry is a huge opportunity for the people, because it will create thousands of jobs and help bring in revenue we need to address our state debt. This industry can provide well needed revenues in taxes if Our Governor and Politicians DO THE RIGHT THING! I oppose the passage of the House Bill 1950 (Marcellus shale) this bill allows the gas companies to drill without paying their fair share of taxes in PA. This is an example of how the big wealthy companies and well-connected individuals benefit at the expense of the vast majority of the people. It's a sham, that our Governor gave these companies a "sweetheart tax deal", It rubs the people especially taxpayers and fails to make huge out-of-state corporations pay their fair share of taxes. This Bill contains weak environmental protections over drinking water, our streams and wetlands and most importantly the people will get little in return. I will vote to repeal or amend House Bill 1950.
I believe in Servant Leadership, bottom up approach. I am not a politician, and I will not be a career Politician, one who has lost touch with the everyday needs and concerns of day-to-day people. The Governor and house Republicans in the people's house have their Public Servant priorities mixed up and are doing a bad job for the people of Pennsylvania and district 106 in particular. The voice of the people, by the people and for the people, is how government must operate and our leaders were elected to serve the people. Our representatives should represent the people not be an echo or political party agent. I believe in People over politics! As your State Representative, I will be committed to serving the people of our commonwealth and district 106, representing their interest in the state general assembly, making decisions on behalf of my constituents and the people of Pennsylvania. I will not be an agent but a representative. I do not believe that wealth and status should be an entitlement to lead. This election is about issues that affect the people not partisan politics. We need change in Harrisburg.
Good education is Key to future growth and development Our Schools cannot produce the best and brightest students if Politicians in Harrisburg keep eliminating funding for programs that are proven to work, for example, the arts. A student today is a potential employer or employee tomorrow. As our President stated "Higher education cannot be a luxury reserved for the privileged few, it is an economic necessity". I will fight hard for our schools and vote to support legislation that funds our public education system. I will support investments in early childhood education such as prekindergarten and full-day kindergarten programs. I will support programs that increase individualized attention for students through tutoring, reduced class size, and before and after-school instructional options. I will fight to provide funding to support programs that would attract and retain historically under-served students and faculty at state universities. As a parent of two public school students, a student myself and a home owner, I am upset because I know firsthand a reduction in State funding for public education will force local government and school districts to increase property taxes which will have a more painful impact on fixed income residents such as seniors. A balanced system approach is what we need: Certified teachers with a heart and passion to teach, involve families and communities in their public schools, provide smaller class sizes with updated educational materials, provide a safe and conducive learning environment (school buildings and classrooms), provide alternative school services for disruptive or delinquent students, and diversify state, local, sales and income taxes plus have these huge out-of-state corporations that are doing business in the commonwealth pay their fair share of taxes. Stop the use of our children's education funding as a means to balance the state budget.
